Prayer alert for God’s people in Southern Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo on the natural disasters that have occurred
Dear sisters and brothers, ecumenical greetings in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
We are saddened by the recent natural disasters that have befallen the region of Southern Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) that have left scores of deaths and thousands displaced and socially dispossessed. We kindly invite you to spend sometimes in prayers for our beloved sisters and brothers that are currently devastated by such calamities. No doubt, these calamities have ravaged communities, endangered lives and destroyed livelihoods and left many people in dire need of humanitarian assistance and ecclesial accompaniment.
In solidarity with the people of Southern Africa and DRC, we believe that indeed God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Even when the earth gives way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, even when the waters of the sea roar and foam, and the mountains quake with their surging we will not fear (Psalms, 46:1-3). It is with this confidence that we seek for prayers for all affected individuals, families and communities.
Please pray for:
1. God’s comfort, peace healing and restoration for families who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods.
2. the protection and sustenance of hope for displaced and dispossessed communities.
3. strength, wisdom, and safety for all providing help and support on the ground
4. effective coordination of relief efforts and timely access to food, clean water, shelter, pastoral and medical care for all victims
5. the duty-bearers (governments) to effectively address these challenges in sustainable ways.
May God of life hear our prayers and supplications with thanksgiving. Amen
