AACC And St. Paul’s University Renew Partnership to Strengthen Ecumenical Leadership In Africa
The All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) and St. Paul’s University (SPU) have renewed their partnership, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening theological education and ecumenical leadership formation for the Church and society in Africa and beyond. The partnership was renewed during a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing ceremony held on 10th August 2026 at the University’s main campus in Limuru, Kenya. At the centre of the partnership is the Master of Theology in Ecumenical Leadership (MTEL), a programme conceptualized by the AACC to raise and equip a younger generation of leaders with leadership skills grounded on theological knowledge, to respond to practical realities of ministry and ecumenical work in Africa. AACC and St. Paul’s have partnered, journeyed with, and graduated two cohorts so far.
Speaking during the ceremony, the AACC General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Fidon Mwombeki, emphasized the importance of intentionally preparing younger theologians and leaders by creating opportunities for them to participate in ecumenical conversations with clarity and focus.
"It is not just about producing more theologians but nurturing leaders capable of serving effectively within churches and the society at large." He affirmed.
For St. Paul’s University, the partnership reflects the university’s commitment to academic quality and to partnerships that strengthen its contributions to the wider society.
The University has continued to expand its academic programmes while investing in innovation and emerging areas of knowledge, said the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Esther Mombo. She further underlined that "the partners also expressed a commitment to expanding opportunities for younger theologians and increasing the participation of women in the programme, ensuring that the next generation of ecumenical leadership reflects the diversity of the Church in Africa."
