AACC Congratulates Jurist Navi Pillay on Winning the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize

The All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) joins the Republic of South Africa, Africa and the world at large in congratulating Justice Navanethem Navi Pillay on being awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. Indeed, this is the Lord’s doing and it is marvelous in our eyes.  

Justice Pillay is a South African jurist born in Clairwood, Durban, on 23rd September 1941. She has dedicated nearly six decades of her legal career to defending human rights, challenging apartheid and advancing international justice. Her distinguished service includes defending anti-apartheid activists, presiding over the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and serving as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights from 2008 to 2014. She was announced as the Nobel Peace Prize laureate by the Norwegian Nobel Committee On 9th October 2026, in recognition of her efforts to promote peace and international law.

For Africa, Justice Pillay’s recognition affirms the importance of confronting injustice with courage and hope, irrespective of the challenges, opposition or sacrifices involved. Her achievement reminds us that building the Africa we envision requires dedication, courage and persistent action.
